Hyacinth bralette (Ohhh Lulu • free pattern)
Oh la la! Let’s continue the Christmas saga with the Hyacinth bra by Ohhh Lulu, a free pull-on bralette pattern that I’ve wanted to try for a long time.
This time the gift is for my other sister who has a preference for easy-to-forget lingerie. So I went for a simple outfit but in a chic and festive Breton fabric.

The Hyacinth bralette pattern
The Hyacinth bra is a very simple pattern with only 2 pieces: a front and a back. Easy and quick to sew, it is a good candidate for a first bra.
It’s so basic that there are only 2 pages to print for all sizes, with the pieces on the fold. Well in this case, I’ve copied directly from my computer screen since no printer at home…
The sizes go from XXS (81 cm chest size) to XXXL (119 cm).
The seam allowances are 1.2 cm (1/2 inch), which I find impractical for lingerie. The seam allowances then rest directly on the skin. I prefer them to be minimal.
But as I didn’t follow one line of the instructions (which I read for the first time just now), I made my own sauce and cut all the margins to 0.6 cm.
That’s called confidence anyway!
In hindsight, I’m very happy to have done as I pleased. The instructions are detailed and interesting but I prefer my usual proven methods.
The Hyacinth x Acacia Christmas set
This bra below is the first sewn version. I thought it looked so good that I packed it straight away with its matching Acacia panties.
After trying it on, the sister asked me to make the underbust band a little looser.
I was actually DE-LIGHT_ED, so I was able to keep this one to myself. Then I sewed a 2nd identical version except for the 2 cm wider and looser underbust elastic and adjustable straps (which I had omitted on version 1).
Really, homemade gifts are half altruistic, half selfish in fact… but shhhh.
Sewing the Hyacinth bralette
So I sewed 3 versions of this bra: 2 in Breton jersey and 1 in this delicious fluo jersey.
The Hyacinth bra’s pattern proposes to finish the front neckline with stretch lace. For my part, I used foldover elastic and picot elastic instead.
It works perfectly.
For the 2 versions in black and gold, I modified the front piece to have a polka dot mesh insert in the centre.
For the back, it is still the fluorescent version that is the most true to the pattern.
For the 2 others, I also modified the unique 3-piece back piece to insert polka dot mesh. I didn’t use mesh for the whole back because I was worried that it wouldn’t be stretchy enough to be comfortable. So part of it is in a very stretchy matt lycra.
Comfort, comfort, I shout your name.
My versions of the Hyacinth, it’s a bit of a one room two ambiences, I’ll grant you that… but a comfy room either way. And what can I do if my tastes are slightly eclectic ? Hmmm?
Made (mostly) of cotton jersey mit elastane, they are perfect for everyday life, Sundays and yoga ... but, let’s forget the zumba.
How would it turn out with a firmer fabric and a wide elastic at the bottom? One can wonder.
Conclusion
This free pattern is very nice and highly recommendable. I am very happy with all these versions.
Moreover, the modifications with the cut pieces make it possible to fit it into tiny remnants for a graphic effect AND very economical sewing.
Finally, the Hyacinth bra looks like many of the other patterns listed on my blog post dedicated to the free lingerie patterns that I will also have to try out one day.
